Major word processors, including Microsoft Word and its competitor WordPerfect, have built-in features to semi-automate the creation of a legal basis table. [10] These programs can create tables based on custom citations. Nevertheless, it has been said that creating an agency spreadsheet with Word “hits. Fear in the hearts of law clerks” and has been described as “intimidating”. [11] The process of formatting citations is described as “confusing”, “frustrating” and “time-consuming”. [12] The book “Legal Writing” describes the table of authorities as “complicated” and says: “It takes longer than you can imagine.” [13] The “Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation” is used in many jurisdictions to provide citation rules for judicial authorities. [1] First, the bad news: Microsoft Word`s “Authorities Table” feature cannot create a table of points and authorities at the time of this article, as some courts require.
